EVM glitches mar polling in Aurangabad

AURANGABAD: Polling in Aurangabad constituency remained by and large peaceful amid heavy security arrangements. About 49.85% voters exercised their franchise till 6pm in the district.
However, malfunctioning of EVMs was reported from several polling booths. A cane bomb was also recovered from a polling booth at Gopaldera - Bazbban Salaiya village in the district.
Though polling commenced at scheduled time but soon reports of EVM malfunctioning started pouring in at the district headquarters.
EVM malfunctioning was reported from booth no 286 of Rafiganj and booth numbers 44, 89 and 146 of Aurangabad. Later, more than 35 EVMs were either replaced or repaired. At a polling booth under Dhibra police station area, a villager was arrested with a fake model of EVM made of thermocol.
Sources said polling had a slow start due to rough weather. Long queue of voters was not visible at most of the booths.
Polling in Kutmba and Rafiganj assembly constituencies was held from 7 am to 4 pm while in Aurangabad, it concluded at 6 pm. “There is no report of any untoward incident in the constituency. The polling was peaceful,” SDPO Anup Kumar said.
