If you don't give me votes, I won't give you jobs: Maneka Gandhi
NEW DELHI: In a video clip being shared on social media, Union minister Maneka Gandhi has been heard saying that she won't be inclined to help Muslims if she does not get their support in the Lok Sabha elections.
Maneka was speaking to members of the Muslim community in Sultanpur, from where she is contesting the Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket.
"This is important. I am winning.
I am winning because of the love and support of people. However, if my victory is without Muslims, I won't feel good about it. Then when a Muslim comes to me for work, I think let it be, how does it matter. However, a job is also a negotiation. After all, we aren't all sons of Mahatma Gandhi. It's not that we keep on giving and then losing in the election. This victory will happen with or without you," she told a gathering of Muslim community members in Sultanpur.
Earlier, the Union minister had landed in a similar controversy when she described BSP chief Mayawati as a "merchant of tickets" and alleged that she does not give her party tickets to anyone without taking money.
She also accused the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister of not being loyal to anyone.
"Mayawati does not spare her own party men then how will she spare the country and the state. She can't do without (currency) notes. She does not give her party's tickets to anyone without taking money. Mayawati is a saudaagar (merchant) of tickets," she said addressing a meeting here.
"Mayawati is not loyal to anybody (Mayawati kisi ki nahi hai). Her (party's) ticket cannot be obtained without currency notes," she alleged.
