Suresh Chandra Datta, the headmaster of Hatikata Sheikh Moni Gyanendra Government Primary School in Gopalganj, initiated a case against private tutor Manoj Kumar Biswas, Durgapur union council member Hasan Sheikh's brother Shahjahan Sheikh, and three other unidentified suspects on Friday.

Manoj, son of Modhumoy Biswas of Hatikata village, tutors students of the neighbourhood at his home. The alleged victim was one of his students.

The girl, a grade-four student, fainted when she came to school from Manoj’s house on Apr 9, Headmaster Suresh said.  

“She was bleeding. We came to know about the rape then,” the headmaster told bdnews24.com, alleging that Manoj has raped her a number of times since November last year.

“She was threatened with murder if she shared the incident with anyone,” Suresh said.

Influential people of the area, including local union council chairman, a member, president of the school’s governing body, were present when the girl described the incidents of rape.

The child was later admitted to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital, a government facility.

She and her family have remained missing since Shahjahan took away the girl from the hospital, according to the headmaster.

The girl was “tricked and abducted”, he alleged.

Ashit Kumar Mallik, an assistant director at the hospital, said he could not say anything with certainty without checking documents before the hospital reopens on Saturday.

"The hospital authorities might have released her at the request of her relatives,” he added.

Sub-Inspector ‘Bakul’ of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, is investigating the case.

Police initially suspected that three to four people, including Shahjahan, abducted the girl from the hospital, Bakul said.

“The medical test has not been completed. I think she has been abducted to destroy the rape evidence," he added.

Sadar Police Station OC Monirul Islam said police were trying to arrest the culprits.

Locals alleged that Hasan had helped the accused flee, which the union council member denied.

“I’ve heard about the case, but I haven’t helped anyone escape," he said.
