Seven killed in road mishap in Suryapet district of Telangana

HYDERABAD: Seven persons died in Suryapet district after the autorickshaw in which they were travelling in was hit by a speeding lorry on Sunday afternoon. The deceased were returning to Kodad after participating in Sri Rama Navami celebrations at Thamera village
Suryapet police said that the incident took place at 3.40pm when nine persons were travelling in an autorickshaw between Kodad Town and Khammam crossroads.
The autorickshaw driver, in his attempt to overtake a vehicle, ended up hitting a lorry coming from the opposite direction.
Five persons died on the spot and the remaining four were shifted to a local hospital where two more persons succumbed to the injuries.
"It was at Thamera village where the Ram Navami festival celebrations were organised. After visiting the place, victims were returning to Kodad and enroute the mishap took place. The location where the mishap took place is not accident prone and the incident was caused due to negligent driving of autorickshaw and overspeeding of lorry,’’ Suryapet superintendent of police, R Venkateshwarlu said.
