Bihar: Kishanganj Parliamentary Constituency is the only segment in Bihar which has the largest concentration of Muslims. This constituency consists of Kishanganj, Thakurganj, Kochadhaman, Bahadurgunj of Kishanganj District and Amur and Halsi Assembly constituencies.

It may be mentioned that earlier, Mr. Syed Shahabuddin, Mr. M.J. Akbar, Mr. Mohammed Tasleemuddin and Maulana Asrarul Haq Qasimi represented this constituency. In one of the elections, BJP leader, Mr. Syed Shahnawaz Husain also won the seat. He served as a minister in Vajpayee cabinet.

According to Census of 2011, Kishanganj District has the lowest rate of literacy being 57.04 percent whereas the State literacy average of Bihar is 63.82%.

Kishanganj Parliamentary constituency goes to poll on 18th April. Although, there are 17 constants, the tough competition is between Dr. Javeed of Congress coalition, Mr. Syed Mehmood Ashraf of JD (U) and Mr. Akhtarul Iman, State President of MIM.

It is reported that most of the Muslim youths favour Akhtarul Iman since they are impressed with the speeches of MIM President, Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi. Muslim youths feel that other Muslim leaders raise their issues only for namesake but Mr. Owaisi has the tactics of raising such issues with concreate proofs.

The other candidate, Mr. Syed Ahmed Ashraf hopes that he would fill the gap caused by the demise of Maulana Asraul Haq Qasimi. The developmental works done by Mr. Nitish Kumar will help him but his major drawback is although, he is one of the major leaders of JD (U) his stature has been very low.
