NIRF ranking 2019 HIGHLIGHTS: President of India, Ram Nath Kovind has announced the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2019 on April 8, 2019. This year, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras topped the overall ranking.
The rankings were announced under nine categories â Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture, and Law. The ranking is done on the basis of teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.

Last year, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore topped the list followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. Anna University, Chennai secured rank 4, while University of Hyderabad clinched the fifth spot, and Jadavpur University hold the sixth position.
In the recently released National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) -2019, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) has secured the 11th rank. Director Professor Pramod Kumar Jain told that the next year, the IIT(BHU) is aiming for the top ten in the engineering category in the NIRF ranking. He said that our Institute scored 68.61 points in Teaching, Learning and Resource (TLR), 45.63 points in Research, Professional Practice and Collaborative Performance (RPC), 77.36 points in Graduation Outcome (GO) and the total number of Outreach & Inclusivity (OI) is 53.16, compared to the previous year all categories have increased this year.
Jamia Hamdard emerged as the best pharmacy college in the recently launched National Institute of Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry.

Though this year, IIM-A lost to IIM-Bangalore, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Gandhinagar, scaled five spots in pharmacy category with rank nine. In 2018, NIPER was ranked 14th. Another state institute, which is in top 10 in its category, is Gujarat National Law University in Gandhinagar. It is at rank nine in law category.
Fourteen institutes from Gujarat have made it to top 100 in their respective categories in National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2019 declared Monday, with Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) slipping to second spot after being on the top for two years in a row in management category.
While both JNU and Jamia continued to hold on to last year’s rank of two and 12 respectively among universities in the Ministry of Human Resource Development’s ranking, DU has seen a considerable fall.
As per the NIRF website, factors which combine to determining the TLR score are “student strength including doctoral students”; “faculty-student ratio with emphasis on permanent faculty”; “combined metric for faculty with PhD (or equivalent) and experience”; and “total budget and its utilisation”.
Delhi University, which was ranked seven among universities in the country last year by the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF), has fallen to rank 13, behind Jamia Millia Islamia. Its' overall ranking among all institutes (which includes IITs) has fallen from rank 14 last year to 20 now. Among the parameters on which DU has not done well are student-teacher ratio with “emphasis on permanent faculty”, budget utilisation, and number and quality of publications.
In the management category or the B-school category, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore has taken over the IIM-Ahmedabad continuing the tussle between the two top-ranking management schools.
