PATNA/BIHARSHARIF: The special investigation team (SIT) has picked up eight suspects for interrogation in connection with the gruesome killing of a Nalanda-based journalist’s son Ashwini Kumar alias Chintu.
Chintu (18), was found murdered at his native village Hasanpur under Harnaut police station on Sunday. Police said the deceased’s eyes were also gouged out.
Nalanda SP Nilesh Kumar said that eight persons have been detained for interrogation and some material, including screw driver, reportedly used in the killing was recovered during the raid at the suspected hideouts of the killers.
A forensic team from the state forensic science laboratory also visited the spot and collected evidences. Samples of bloodstains were collected. Sniffer dogs were also pressed into service to trace the whereabouts of the killers.
“The SIT headed by a DSP rank officer is already on the job. Scientific evidences are being gathered to nab the killers,” SP Nilesh told this newspaper on Monday. He said the reason behind the murder of the only son of the journalist Ashutosh Kumar, who is the bureau chief of a vernacular daily, is yet to be ascertained. “The boy was mentally challenged. The family had brought him from his school at Digha in Patna to his native village about three months ago,” the SP added.
The journalist's family stays at Harnaut. However, the boy lived with his grandmother at Hasanpur due to his ill-health. Taking a serious note of the incident, DIG (central range) Rajesh Kumar visited the spot and issued necessary instructions to SIT members. He also met the members of the bereaved family and assured them of early action.
The DIG also ordered the SP to provide the family proper security. An investigating officer said the scribe has been provided a bodyguard. In addition, the village chowkidar has been directed to keep a close watch on the movement of some residents who were suspected to be involved in the crime.
DSP Imran Perwez, who is heading the SIT, said the preliminary investigation revealed that the boy had left home around 2 pm and his body was recovered around 7 pm. “The role of some villagers is under scanner,” the SIT chief said.
The IPS officer said that prima facie the incident appeared to be a fallout of personal enmity. He, however, hastened to add that it would not to justified to jump to any conclusion at this stage.
