The National Election Watch and ADR have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 1,590 out of 1,644 candidates, who are contesting in the Lok Sabha Phase II.
Vasanthakumar H, a Congress candidate from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, is the richest among all the candidates in Phase II.
NEW DELHI: In the second phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, 27% or 427 candidates are crorepatis with assets worth Rs 1 crore and above. 11% of the candidates have declared assets above Rs.5 crore while 41% have declared assets below Rs 10 lakh, according to an analysis by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). The average asset per candidate contesting in the Lok Sabha Phase II election is Rs. 3.9 crore. The National Election Watch and ADR have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 1,590 out of 1,644 candidates, who are contesting in the Lok Sabha Phase II. Out of all 1,590 candidates analysed, 209 are from national parties, 107 are from state parties, 386 are from registered unrecognized parties and 888 candidates are contesting independently.
Among the major parties 46 (87%) out of 53 candidates from INC, 45 (88%) out of 51 candidates from BJP, 23 (96%) out of 24 candidates from DMK, 22 (100%) candidates from AIADMK and 21 (26%) out of 80 candidates from BSP have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore.
Vasanthakumar H, a Congress candidate from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu is the richest among all the candidates contesting in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections. His total assets are more than 417 crore. He is followed by Uday Singh of the Congress from Purnia in Bihar at Rs 341 crore and DK Suresh from the same party from Bengaluru South in Karnataka at Rs 338 crore.
Shrivenkateswar Maha Swamiji (Katakdhond. D. G.) of Hindustan Janata Party contesting from Solapur in Maharashtra holds the lowest assets at just Rs 9. He is followed by Rajesh P and Raja N, both independents from Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu hold total assets of Rs 100 each. There are 16 candidates who have declared zero assets.
There are 41 candidates who have declared their annual total income to be more than Rs. 1 crore. Vasanthakumar H has the highest annual income at Rs 28 crore, followed by Mnaju A of the BJP from Hasan in Karnataka at Rs 12 crore and Arun Motiramji Wankhede of BSP from Amravati in Maharashtra at Rs 4 crore.
58% candidates have not declared their income tax details some of whom may be exempted from filing ITR. There are 52 candidates with assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore who have not declared their ITR details. 13% candidates have not given their PAN details.
