Hyderabad: Secunderabad Railway Police (SRP) nabbed two persons and seized 1 kg gold and 30 kg sliver seized on Wednesday at Secunderabad Railway Station. The total worth of the seized items is said to be Rs 45 lakh.
SRP superintendent of police, G Ashok Kumar said the suspects, identified as Vishal Raja Ram Varma and Nikhil Govind Varma, are from Nanded in Maharashtra and work at a jewellery shop named Gopi Jewellery Arts.
Both were caught by the police when they were on the foot over bridge (FOB) at Platform No. 7 of Secunderabad Railway Station. They were planning to board the Jaipur Express.
Officials, during a routine check at the platforms, found the two accused were moving in a suspicion manner, and were carrying two bags. When their bags were checked, police recovered 10 gold biscuits and 16 silver bricks, all worth Rs 45 lakh. The suspects claimed the gold and silver belong to their owner Subhash Varma, who resides in Nanded.
During the questioning, when both were asked to show the source of the valuable metals, they failed to produce any supporting documents, after which the officials seized them.
“We came to know that the accused collected gold and silver from Pot Market in Secunderabad,” railway police said.
