The accused mason, Devaraya Kumar, was just waiting for an opportunity to kill his children. Investigators found that Kumar had planned and attempted to kill the three earlier also.
“On April 11, he tried to kill his two daughters and son by hanging them from an iron rod. However, he failed in his attempt after his sister and other relatives intervened,” said Ramachandrapuram inspector P. Ramachandra Rao.
Ultimately, he executed his plan on Tuesday night when the kids were asleep.
“I woke up suddenly when my neck started hurting. I found that my father was trying to slit my throat with a knife. When I tried to resist, he told me that we all have to die now because of my mother’s behaviour,” the girl, who survived the attack, said. “Since their mother left them, the children were sleeping at their aunt’s house. But, on Tuesday, the accused brought them to his house,” police said. Kumar and Sirisha fell in love and got married with their parents’ approval, about 12 years ago. But, a few years later, Kumar started suspecting her character and used to quarrel with Sirisha frequently. “He also believed that the three children were not his and Sirisha was having illicit affairs with several men,” police said. Vexed with his behaviour, Sirisha left for her parents’ home.
“He also tried to kill me on several occasions before, but I managed to escape,” Sirisha said on Wednesday.
