Scooby
HAVERI: Scooby, the labrador who served in the bomb squad in the Haveri police department retired on Tuesday after 10 years of meritorious service. Scooby was given a grand and emotional farewell.
Police officer M G Gopali will take care of the lab after its retirement. Scooby came in for praise by the department for its role in helping cops crack several crime cases during its 10-year service.
Constable C B Chapparadahalli in whose care Scooby was all these years told TOI that the dog was brought to the department when he was around 3 months.
When he turned eight months, he was sent to Adugodi in Bengaluru to be trained as a police dog. After a year of rigorous training, he was officially appointed to the local bomb squad branch.
“I looked after him like my son,” said an emotional Chapparadalli. “I was very pained when Scooby was given a farewell to mark his retirement. His service has been impeccable. He was efficient and was used in bomb detections during VVIP movement in North Karnataka. He has covered many VVIP events including the visit of former President Prathibha Patil, former PM Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several of our CMs across several districts in Karnataka,” said his handler Chapparadalli.
