Laval police arrest four as raids break contraband tobacco ring

Police seized about $150,000 worth of contraband tobacco and $4,000 in cash.

Laval police said on Thursday that four people have been arrested in a connection with contraband tobacco ring that appeared to specialize in shisha — the blend used in water pipes.

The eight-month investigation targeted a network that allegedly covered Laval, Gatineau, Ottawa and Saint-Anicet in the Montérégie region. Search warrants were executed at a commercial address, two small warehouses and four residences.

Police seized about $150,000 worth of contraband tobacco and $4,000 in cash.

The four suspects are males aged 21 to 71.

A total of 60 officers participated in the operation, including contingents from the Sûreté du Québec), Ontario Provincial Police and Gatineau police department.
