Secunderabad: The
Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) is finally getting its act together by promising to issue trade licences to commercial establishments by June first week. — Over 80% of these outlets are running businesses without valid licences and owing to this, SCB has been losing out on huge revenues.
As per records, over 15,000 commercial establishments — shopping malls, hotels, hospitals, bars and restaurants, private hostels, chain link apparel outlets and eateries, grocery stores and pharmaceutical shops are operating in Cantonment.
“We have decided to grant licence to every commercial establishment. We are aware of the fact that only a few commercial establishments have licences issued five years ago. Several of them have not renewed the licences,” joint CEO, SCB, Ramswaroop Haritwal told STOI.
Haritwal warned the owners that running the businesses without the mandatory licence is illegal and a punishable offence. Recently, SCB had issued notices to 100 establishments asking them to apply for trade licences. “We also asked them to provide the necessary documents like name of the trade, product, on whose name the trade licence is to be issued and
property tax receipt,” he said. Over a hundred other applications are pending due to lack of documents.
Officials concerned will visit each commercial establishment, check if the shop is being set up on encroached or defence land.
