BENGALURU/KALABURAGI: The state government on Saturday transferred to CID the investigation into the mysterious death of an engineering student in Raichur earlier this week. "An order to this effect was issued by director general of police Neelamani M Raju," said Kamal Pant, additional DG of police.
In Raichur, the victim's mother said her daughter was murdered, and alleged that the uncle of the accused tried to help him in covering up the crime.
"My daughter has not committed suicide. It's a murder," she said in a press conference in Raichur on Saturday.
She alleged that Anjaneya, a constable attached with the Raichur district women's police station and uncle of accused Sudarshan Yadav, stopped the family from filing a case of missing person. He returned her phone and bike even before the body was found, she said.
Victim’s mom seeks probe against cop
On April 13, when we went to file a case of missing person at the women’s police station, the accused youth Sudarshan’s uncle Anjaneya discouraged us. He sent us back saying that our daughter would return home in a few days,” alleged the victim’s mother.
“The next day, Anjaneya returned us her cellphone and her scooter,” she said. The 21-year-old’s decomposed body was found on April 16. “This indicates that Anjaneya knew about what was going on and was trying to rescue Sudarshan,” she said, demanding investigation against the constable.
She alleged that Sudarshan had been “torturing” her daughter for at least six months. “He troubled her on her way to and from the college. We have noticed him near our house several times,” she said.
