MUZAFFARPUR: Unidentified criminals looted Rs 4 lakh from a wholesale egg trader near Dadar bridge under the Ahiapur police station area here on Monday. The criminals, who fled towards Bairiya bus stand in the town after committing the crime, also fired in the air in a bid to terrorise the locals.
The incident took place around 3pm when the trader, Mohammad Israr, was on way to Brahmapura locality of the town to hand over the cash to another trader.

Israr said he had kept the money in a bag and was going to Brahmapura riding a motorcycle. “After I reached near bridge on the old Darbhanga bypass road, three motorcycle-borne masked criminals intercepted me and looted the cash at gunpoint. They also took away my motorcycle. When I tried to raise an alarm, they hit me with the butt of their firearm,” Israr said.
Muzaffarpur SSP Manoj Kumar said a manhunt had been launched to arrest those involved in the crime. “The criminals abandoned the looted motorcycle near Kolhua roundabout. Police have identified the criminals and efforts are on to arrest them,” the SSP added.
The broad daylight loot has put a question mark over security arrangements in the district in view of the ensuing parliamentary election. Muzaffarpur will go to the polls in the fifth phase on May 6. A police team was checking vehicles hardly 100 metres away from the spot where the crime took place.
