Add Energy Wins Queen's Award For Enterprise

Two north and north-east businesses are among only eight in Scotland and 201 from throughout the UK to be recognised in the 2019 Queen’s Awards for Enterprise.

The Aberdeen-based asset and integrity management (AIM) arm of oil and gas consultancy Add Energy and Skye-based Perle Hotels have both won awards in the international trade category of the prestigious competition, which is held annually to mark the Queen’s birthday.

Add’s AIM team was honoured for “outstanding” short-term growth in overseas sales over the past three years.

Overseas earnings for the business now account for more than 90% of total revenue from operations across Europe, North America and the Middle East.

Perle’s hotel portfolio comprises the Marmalade and Bosville on Skye, the Perle Oban Hotel in Argyll and Lochardil House Hotel in Inverness.

The Portree-based group was also recognised for “outstanding” short-term growth, having seen its overseas sales soar 172% over the past three years.

All 201 UK businesses, including 151 small and medium-sized enterprises and six double award winners, will be honoured at a Buckingham Palace reception.

They are involved in activities ranging from construction to agriculture, motoring and software development.

They join more than 6,000 UK businesses in receiving the prestigious accolades and will have the privilege of displaying the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise emblem for five years.

Business Secretary Greg Clark said: “These awards recognise the innovative products and services being provided by British businesses that are in demand across the world, as well as the sheer determination and hard work that comes with starting and running a business. Many of these winners are small businesses – the backbone of our economy – and we are backing them to grow, increase their productivity and create more jobs and opportunity across the UK.”
