PATNA: The third phase of Lok Sabha elections saw voters of five constituencies in the state – Jhanjharpur, Supaul, Araria, Madhepura, Khagaria – sealing the fate of several heavyweights, including former MP and RJD nominee Sharad Yadav, Congress’s Supaul MP Ranjeet Ranjan, LJP leader Mehboob Ali Kaiser and Madhepura MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav on Tuesday.
National spokesperson of BJP and the party’s star campaigner Shahnawaz Hussain, deputy chairman of Bihar legislative council Haroon Rashid and others were seen queuing up outside the polling stations in Supaul to exercise their franchise.

Shahnawaz reached Kosi Colony polling station in Supaul early in the morning and stood in a queue with other voters for a long time as the poll officials were busy rectifying the faulty electronic voting machines (EVMs).
“I had to wait for more than an hour at the polling booth as the EVMs malfunctioned. The other voters also suffered. The poll officials should have rectified the EVMs before the polling began,” Shahnawaz said.
The Madhepura seat witnessed a fight between three Yadavs – Pappu Yadav (independent), Sharad Yadav (who fought on an RJD ticket) and Dinesh Chandra Yadav (JD-U).
Pappu, the sitting MP of Madhepura, was seen in a jolly mood at a polling booth. “Ye public hai sab janti hai,” he was heard singing!
“I’m quite sure of retaining the seat. People in Madhepura will not be fooled by Sharad and Dinesh’s fake promises. In 2014 also, Sharad had lost despite intense campaign. I will win by a huge margin this time,” Pappu said.

Pappu’s wife Ranjeet Ranjan is also contesting against JD(U) leader Dileshwar Kamat from Supaul. Ranjeet had defeated Kamat in 2014 Lok Sabha election.
Meanwhile, Mahagathbandhan’s Khagaria nominee and Vikasshil Insan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni said he was confident of making a debut in the Parliament. “In Khagaria, no politician is as popular as me,” he claimed. Sahni, who had floated VIP just before the general election, has challenged LJP MP Chaudhary Mehboob Ali Kaiser in Khagaria.
“Kaiser was rejected by his own party but somehow managed to get ticket. Now, people of Khagaria constituency have rejected him. He is not even in the race,” Sahni said.
In Araria, the voters sealed the fate of Sarfaraz Alam of RJD and Pradip Singh of BJP. The Jhanjharpur seat witnessed a direct fight between Ramprit Mandal of JD(U) and Gulab Yadav of RJD.
