Education Conference 2019 concluded on Thursday at the Qatar National Convention Centre. The two-day event was held this year under the title "Education That Makes a Difference"
The biannual conference is a platform for exchanging expertise and ideas on the best regional and international practices in the field of education.
HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi honoured a number of students who won research prizes during a national exhibition and other events.
Hitmi Khalifa al-Hitmi of Qatar University and the University of Edinburgh, who also has a number of inventions and scientific researches to his credit, discussed ways to acquire self-learning skills, and provided the audience with the means to help them research and learn different topics, including the ability to solve the problems they face in everyday life.
He also discussed many initiatives and guidelines that will help communities fight rumors that spread through social media, while gaining the ability to distinguish between reliable and unreliable sources.
Al-Hitmi also gave an account of the initiatives, inventions and discoveries made in the aviation and astronomy fields. He said that passion, love of discovery and knowledge were all the drive for great inventions and major discoveries in the sciences.
Al-Hitmi discussed the Wright brothers, who made their first flight even though they did not earn degrees. He also talked about his personal experiences in solving related problems, and put forward innovative ideas in this regard. He stressed that students have to be ambitious in order to succeed.
For her part, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Fawzia Abdulaziz al-Khater stressed the important role the conference plays in advancing education. She added that the ministry was committed to organising such important conferences, and improving future editions of this conference even further.
She also said that this year's edition had a variety of distinguished lecturers, and provided training workshops, open lectures, interactive sessions.
She noted that change in education policies can be achieved by adopting new strategies, ideas, and projects at a time of great change, both at the cognitive level or technological level. She added that the ministry looks forward to having the school environment help realise the education goals.
The second and final day of the conference included a series of interactive and training workshops, and open lectures that dealt with educational curricula, and issues concerning those working in this field.
These events included several topics on the use of STEM education method, the "Montessori methodology", and accounting skills for children with learning disabilities, the development of digital information literacy skills, crisis and media strategies, Arabic learning support software, and developing classroom communication skills through mind training, and the overall quality of education in light of professional standards, educational integration and quality management from formality to effectiveness.
The conference also included activities, lectures and other workshops on vocational learning communities and the challenges of higher education in the Arab world and the role of universities in qualifying graduates to engage in local and international labour markets and equipping them with the necessary skills.
The activities also included the use of mathematics in the calculation of spaces, sizes and density and the role of leaders of educational institutions in the face of the challenges of rooting national identity and the use of film editing technology "Green Screen" in the process of education and its impact on intellectual and psychological security, as well as other important topics.
The two-day conference focused on three axes: local and international trends in developing the educational process, the consolidation of education and cultural identity and quality management in education, with the participation of a large number of scientists, researchers and educational experts from Qatar and abroad.
A total of 108 participants were selected from 500. A training workshop, a scientific lecture and a panel discussion, and 12 interactive sessions were held at the student research exhibition. The event was attended by local and international universities, educational institutions, research centres and educational companies.
The 4the edition of the conference was distinguished by its accompanying activities. The conference is also an exploratory journey of the world's experiences brought to Qatar through international experts in the field of education.
