Cyclone Fani likely to form in 36 hours; Tamil Nadu govt keeps disaster teams on alert

At 8.30am, the system lay centred around 1,490km southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and 1760km south-southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh).
CHENNAI: A cyclonic storm is likely to form in the 36 hours and is may move towards north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coast by April 30.

The India Meteorological Department on Friday afternoon said that the system intensified into a depression over East Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal.
At 8.30am, the system lay centred around 1,490km southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and 1760km south-southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh).
"It is very likely to intensify further into a deep depression during next 24 hours and into a cyclonic storm during the subsequent 12 hours," the IMD said.
Weathermen said that strengthening system is very likely to move northwestwards off the Sri Lanka coast in the next 96 hours and reach near north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coast on the evening of April 30.
