Miscreants kill man, son in Nalanda village

BIHARSHARIF: Miscreants shot at and critically injured one Vishundeo Manjhi and his son Anandi Majhi at Nadiauna village under Deepnagar police station area in Nalanda district, on the wee hours of Friday.
However, both the victims succumbed to their injuries during treatment at Biharsharif sadar hospital in the morning.
Vishnudeo’s younger son Ashok Manjhi said, “Armed criminals shot at his father and brother when they were fast asleep on the verandah of their house.Soon after the incident, they were rushed to sadar hospital where they succumbed to their injuries during treatment.” He alleged hands of sand smugglers behind the crime. He said that his father and his brother along with some villagers had recently opposed sand smuggling from the village. “Two others, who had earlier opposed illegal sand mining, were also shot dead in 2017,” he added.
Nalanda SP Nilesh Kumar, who visited the village to meet the bereaved family did not confirm or rule out the possibility of involvement of sand smugglers.
Police have been deployed in the village to deal with any untoward situation.
Body found: In another incident, Hilsa police have found the body of an unidentified youth from the railway track. It seems that the youth was killed somewhere else and his body was dumped there to mislead the investigation, said police.
Girl commits suicide: A 20-year-old girl jumped off from Biharsharif's Bari Pahadi also known as Hirnay Parbat. After falling from the height, her body was stucked up in a tree. Local residents rushed her to Biharsharif sadar hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. A police officer from Laheri police station said efforts are on to establish the identity of the deceased.
