Neil Robertson storms into snooker's world quarters

Australia's Neil Robertson has stormed into the quarter-final of snooker's World Championships in England after taking the last five frames of his clash with Shaun Murphy to secure a comprehensive 13-6 victory.

The left-handed 2010 champion had built a 10-6 lead heading into Friday's evening session at Sheffield's famous Crucible Theatre, thanks to breaks of 106, 79, 57, 127, 67 and 62.

And there was no let up with Murphy potting just one ball in the later frames as world No.4 Robertson rattled off runs of 120, 88 and 95 and enjoying a 92 per cent pot success.

"The first session yesterday was a wonderful standard from both of us," said the 37-year-old from Melbourne, the winner of 16 world ranking titles.

"This morning was a little bit tougher, there were some close frames, but I pinched a couple of big frames on the black.

"Tonight was a great way to finish off the match. I'm playing with freedom. It's a lot easier said than done, but I'm just going out there and playing."

Defending champion Mark Williams suffered a worrying health scare after the opening session of his second-round tie with David Gilbert.

Williams lost the session 5-3 and later posted on social media that he was in the emergency department of a local hospital due to chest pains.

The 44-year-old informed tournament officials of the issue after the session and was advised by the on-call doctor to attend hospital. Williams made his own way there and is understood to be with his wife Joanne and son Kian.

Breaks of 105, 66 and 58 had earlier helped Williams get back on level terms against Gilbert, but the latter took the last two frames of the day to carve out a 5-3 lead.
