PATNA: RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav courted a fresh controversy on Sunday when he termed party’s Jehanabad candidate Surendra Yadav as an “RSS agent”. Tej made the statement while campaigning for his aide Chandra Prakash, who is contesting as independent from Jehanabad against RJD’s official nominee.
“Since I am here to seek votes for Chandra Prakash, his victory is certain.
He is contesting under the banner of Lalu-Rabri Morcha,” Tej said at Kako in Jehanabad.
Tej was earlier at loggerheads with his younger brother Tejashwi Prasad Yadav over selection of candidates for Sheohar and Jehanabad seats. Miffed over denial of ticket to his choices for the two seats, Tej had floated his own front, Lalu-Rabri Morcha, on April 1.
Hitting out at RJD nominee Surendra, Tej said he (Surendra) amassed wealth by grabbing land from the poor and doing arms deals. “A wrong person has got RJD’s ticket. He will again create nuisance for the party. He does not want Tejashwi to become chief minister,” Tejashwi said while addressing a public meeting.
Tej also used the youth card to woo the voters, taking names of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav and his younger brother Tejashwi Prasad Yadav. “If young leaders come to power, they will bring new schemes and work for development in the country. They will help in opening up hospitals, medical colleges and schools,” Tej said.
Earlier, Tej had campaigned for his aide Angesh Singh at Sheohar on April 19. Angesh’s nomination papers were, however, rejected.
The elder Yadav scion had also resigned as the patron of Chhatra RJD after Surendra’s name was announced as the party’s official nominee for Jehanabad, which will go to the polls in the seventh and last phase on May 19.
