PATNA: In a shocking incident, the supporters of a candidate from Munger Lok Sabha seat on Monday thrashed the Times Now Bihar bureau chief Shyam Sunder Sushovit for allegedly covering “bogus voting” at a polling booth in Ghongsa village under the Halsi police station area of Lakhisarai district. Shyam alleged that the policemen remained mute spectators.
The Times Now camera person, Kumar Saurav, was also assaulted when he tried to record the bogus voting, Shyam alleged.

“As soon as our crew reached near the polling booth in Ghongsa, we saw people rushing here and there. When we inquired, locals informed us that the booth had been ‘peacefully’ managed by the supporters of JD(U) candidate Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh. When I inquired, some police personnel deputed there told me that they had informed all senior officers, including the SP and DSP, about bogus voting at the booth, but no one bothered to take any action. While I was talking to the policemen, the local mukhiya came and asked me to leave. He also pushed my cameraman. When I resisted, the mukhiya and his supporters abused us and pushed me on the ground. Then the villagers, around 25 in number, badly thrashed me. I was profusely bleeding from my ear,” Shyam told TOI over phone.
He said the attackers left him only after a police officer somehow mustered courage and intervened. Soon after the incident, Shyam said he informed the Lakhisarai DM and SP.
