Though the ranking of Dakshina Kannada has slipped to seventh position, the overall pass percentage of students from the district in the SSLC examination for Class 10 has improved to 86.73. The district was ranked fourth with the pass percentage of 85.56.

Of the 11 students who placed second by 624 marks, four are from Dakshina Kannada. They are Sinchana Lakshmi from Vivekananda English Medium High School, Puttur; Kripa K.R. from Kumaraswamy English Medium High School, Sullia; Anupama Kamath from Sri Venkataramana Swamy High School, Bantwal; and Chinmayi from Vittal Jaycees English Medium School, Vitla, have all scored 624 marks.

Chinmayi said the system is too slow and she is finding it hard to see details of the marks in the KSEEB website. Same was the opinion of paediatrician Anuradha Kamath, mother of Anupama Kamath. “We are hearing of my daughter's score from you and a couple of televison reporters. We are unable to get details on the site,” Dr. Kamath said.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction Y. Shivaramaiah said continued focus on slow learners is paying dividends. He lauded efforts of the teachers in preparing slow learners, for the Class 10 examination. “We are working on reducing the number of failures in the SSLC examination,” he told The Hindu .
