Udupi district, which had topped the State in the SSLC results for the last two years, slipped to the fifth position by recording 87.97% results this year. Last year, the district had recorded a pass percentage of 88.18.

The State government has introduced another ranking system – quality basis – from this year, where among other things, the number of students who have got distinction and first class is considered. Here, Udupi district is in the second position in the State by bagging 79.21%.

Officers at the Department of Public Instruction here were slightly disappointed as they were expecting the district to retain the top slot in the pass percentage this year and mark a hat-trick. However, the district notching the second place in quality-basis ranking has made up for their disappointment.

Sheshashayana K., Deputy Director of Public Instruction, told The Hindu on Tuesday that the Department had followed the same strategies which it had been doing for the last two academic years this time also. But they would revisit their strategies in the light of this year’s results. “We will start preparing from June for the next academic year. A positive aspect is our performance in quality-basis ranking this year,” he said.

The Department would hold a brainstorming meeting on the SSLC results here on May 6. “We will analyse the results threadbare and decide on the strategies to improve teaching for the next academic year. All the officers of the department would be attending this meeting,” Mr. Sheshashayana said.

As many as 36 schools have registered a pass percentage of 100 in the SSLC examinations, the results of which were announced on Tuesday.

According to information provided by the Department of Public Instruction here, of the 36 schools, as many as 20 are unaided schools, 11 government schools, and five are aided schools.
