BIHARSHARIF: Acting on a tip-off Nalanda police on Monday safely recovered a two-and-a half-year-old child who was kidnapped on Sunday to be sold to a childless couple. Police also arrested the two kidnappers including a woman when they were about to board a bus with the victim.
Hilsa DSP Mutaffiq Ahmad, who led the investigation, said that one Gyanendra Ravidas’s son Abhishek Kumar went missing from outside his home at Sultanpur village under Hilsa police station area on Sunday evening.
Soon after this, Gyanendra lodged an FIR in this connection and police launched a massive search operation.
On Monday, police arrested one Pinki Devi, wife of one Subodh Ravidas and Bablu Ravidas, son of one Anil Ravidas with the child victim Abhishek from Cinema Hall road minutes before they were to leave the town. Both are residents of Sultanpur village.
The police officer said that during interrogation, Pinki confessed to the crime and said that she had struck a deal with a distant childless relative for Rs 50,000. She then kidnapped a co-villager Gyanendra's son with the help of Bablu on Sunday evening from near his house when he was playing there. However, she refused to part with the child to her relatives as they were not ready to cough up the promised amount. She then planned to sell the kid somewhere else but before they could board a bus, police arrested them. The toddler was handed over to his parents while his tormentors were sent to jail, police said.
