The high demand and low supply has created imbalance, officials say
KOLHAPUR: All parts of C and D wards and some parts of A ward of the city will face water supply cuts on Thursday. Technical snags in Balinga Water Purification Plant have caused Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) to stop pumping of water from Panchaganga River. There are also issues related to electrical works to be carried out at the purification plant.
KMC staff said repair will be finished in a day and water supply will be restored, although pressure of water supplied will be low on Friday.

Suresh Kulkarni, head of water supply department said, "The areas receiving water from Balinga pumping station will be affected, along with areas adjoining the A, C and D wards. Citizens will not receive water on Thursday. We will ensure water supply on Friday, but it could be at low pressure. We have identified areas which may face severe water cuts, and these will get water in tankers."
Wards A, C and D are mostly residential areas. Several new residential colonies have been developed adjoining these areas, and their water needs are quite large. Already some parts of the suburbs receive water at low pressure. The high demand and low supply has created imbalance. Kulkarni said that once technical issues related to water purification at Balinga plant are resolved, supply will be adequate.
Residents of Phulewadi, Ring Road, Lakshtirth Vasahat, Krantisinha Nana Patil Nagar, Aptenagar, Sane Guruji Vasahat, Hariom Nagar, Juna Vashi Naka, Shivaji Peth, Raj Kapoor statue area, Lakshmipuri, Bindu Chowk, Mahalakshmi Temple area and Juna Budhwar Peth area should be prepared for water supply cut and are advised to store water.
