While some of the big screen Marvel Cinematic Universe characters will soon be getting their own shows on the upcoming Disney+ streaming service, other Marvel characters are getting shows on the Hulu streaming service – which Disney gained majority control over when they recently acquired 20th Century Fox. There's already one live action Marvel series in progress on Hulu, The Runaways, a bunch of animated Marvel shows are in the works, and now two more live action shows have been announced. Two that have our full attention here at Arrow in the Head.

First up is a show based on my favorite comic book hero, Marvel's Ghost Rider. This show won't be focusing on the Ghost Riders I grew up with (Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch), but instead on the current version of the character, Robbie Reyes.

Executive produced by showrunner Ingrid Escajeda, Paul Zbyszewski, and Marvel Television's Jeph Loeb, Marvel's Ghost Rider will star Gabriel Luna as

Robbie Reyes, the quintessential antihero, who lives on the Texas/Mexico border, consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. When he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles controlling the power he wields.

Luna previously played Reyes on the ABC / Marvel series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Escajeda had this to say about the show:

I couldn’t be more excited and honored to be handed the reins to a Marvel character as beloved as GHOST RIDER. This story hits every note for me  —my love for grounded yet conflicted characters and my desire to scare the $&!# out of people! It’s important to me to find a take that thrills existing fans as well as wider audiences and I believe we’ve done just that."

The second new Marvel show announced by Hulu today is inspired by a character who made his first appearance in an issue of Ghost Rider back in 1973, Daimon Hellstrom (a.k.a. Hellstorm). In the comics Daimon has a sister named Satana (that's the siblings together above), but in the announcement of the Hulu series Marvel's Helstrom it's mentioned that his sister is named Ana. It makes sense that someone named Satana would go by Ana in their day-to-day.

Executive produced by Loeb and showrunner Zbyszewski, Marvel's Helstrom will center on

Daimon and Ana Helstrom, the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer. The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the worst of humanity — each with their attitude and skills.

Loeb had this to say about these new Hulu projects:

We’re thrilled Hulu will be moving into a new — admittedly chilling — corner of the Marvel Universe with GHOST RIDER and HELSTROM. Paul and Ingrid are crafting gripping adventures into fear that live in our SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE cornerstone."

Ghost Rider and Helstrom are collaborations between Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. These shows are expected to reach Hulu in 2020, and we will be keeping a very close eye on them as they make their way toward the screen.
