UPDATE: Variety has confirmed that Gabriel Luna will play Robbie Reyes in Hulu’s Ghost Rider series. They add that this version of the character will not be connected to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. storyline he previously appeared in.

Original: Deadline reports that Marvel and Hulu have announced two new live-action shows for the streaming service that will debut in 2020: Ghost Rider and Helstrom.

Ghost Rider will follow the Robbie Reyes incarnation of the character. Reyes is “consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon.” He lives on the Texas/Mexico border and sets the Rider free to seek vengeance for the innocent, but he has trouble controlling his power. Ingrid Escajeda will be the showrunner and executive producer with Paul Zbyszewski and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb. It’s unknown if this will be the same Robbie Reyes played by Gabriel Luna in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Of course, Ghost Rider was infamously brought to life by Nicolas Cage as well, who played Johnny Blaze in two films for Sony.

Helstrom follows Daimon and Ana Helstrom, the son and daughter of a serial killer. They have their own set of skills and a “complicated dynamic” as they track down the “worst of humanity.” It will be executive produced by showrunner Paul Zbyszewski and Jeph Loeb. It’s similar to the comic character Daimon Hellstrom, who was known as Hellstorm and the Son of Satan. He made his debut in the Ghost Rider comics before he got his own Son of Satan series. He has demonic powers and can travel back and forth from Hell. He has a sister named Satana in the comics.

Both join Hulu’s growing slate of Marvel shows, including season three of Runaways and the adult animated shows M.O.D.O.K, Hit-Monkey, Tigra & Dazzler Show and Howard the Duck, as well as the special event The Offenders.
