Davenport Adventure: Soar like a bird while hang gliding at Wallaby Ranch

It’s not too far from the rest of Orlando and its theme park attractions, but upon arriving, Wallaby Ranch feels like its own world.

Started by instructor Malcolm Jones in 1991, an experienced pilot with some 38,000 flights under his belt. On his ranch that a handful of folks also call home, a small but dedicated crew helps things run smoothly.

The ranch was the first of its kind, utilizing aerotowing for easier hang gliding instruction. With aerotowing, a plane tows the glider up to about 2,000 feet before the glider is released into the sky.

A tandem “discovery” flight costs $175 and open to people of almost any age. In fact, a 100-year-old great granny went hang gliding several years ago at the ranch.

After your flight, sit down for the complimentary breakfast with other pilots and staff.

If you go: Flying begins every day at 8 a.m., weather permitting. 1805 Deen Still Road in Davenport; $175 for a tandem discovery flight; 863-424-0070; wallaby.com
