HYDERABAD: In a first, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has decided to conduct a special exam on demand for students who have failed to clear the Intermediate examinations.
Following suicide of 21 students and failure of over 3.5 lakh candidates, NIOS decided to conduct the special exam exclusively for the students of Telangana. While NIOS conducts its national exam in June, it will hold the special exam from May 20.

“Keeping in view future of lakhs of students, we have decided to conduct the special exam. This is the first time that we will be conducting an exclusive exam for students of a particular state,” said Anil Kumar, regional director, NIOS, Hyderabad.
According to a notification issued by NIOS, the exam will be held from May 20 to 31. Registration for the examination began on May 1 and will go on till May 10. Students will have to pay Rs 500 per subject to appear for NIOS exams.
“The facility of transfer of credit of two passed papers from the respective board will be taken by NIOS and learner will have to write only three papers for certifications. For certification, the learner is required to pass five subjects with maximum two languages,” read the notification.
Results will be declared within 30 days from the last date of examination. “Students will not lose a year if they appear for NIOS exam as its certification is accepted for all professional courses like engineering, medical, among others,” said Kumar.

Meanwhile, the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education said re-verification of all the answer sheets would be conducted by Globarena Technologies in association with Telangana State Technological Services (TSTS). Globarena is facing a lot of flak for its role in the results fiasco.
“Following recommendations of the three-member committee, it has been decided that re-verification process will be conducted by Globarena along with TSTS,” a press release issued by A Ashok, secretary, TSBIE, said.
