BAREILLY: A 30-year-old farmer was shot dead in Gehat village under the jurisdiction of Gunnaur police station in Sambhal district in the wee hours of Wednesday after he reached his field to irrigate the crop.
His father said that some days ago, one Pappu of the same village had allegedly stolen eight quintals of wheat from their farms. The accused had roughed up Rishikesh for complaining against him.
Rishikesh’s father Netrapal alleged that Pappu had killed his son. On getting the information, police rushed to the spot and took the body into their custody for further investigation.
Station house officer Suman Kumar said that Rishikesh was alone in his field when he was shot dead. Upon hearing a gunshot, villagers rushed to the field but only to find him lying in a pool of blood.
When Rishikesh’s family members and villagers reached the field, he was found struggling for life. They rushed him to the hospital where he died during treatment.
Superintendent of police, Yamuna Prasad said, “The incident occurred around 2:30am when the victim was watering the crop. He received a bullet in his leg. Excessive bleeding led to his death. Rishikesh had some rivalry with accused Pappu who allegedly gunned him down finding him alone in his field. An FIR has been lodged under section 302 (murder) of IPC. Body has been sent for post-mortem examination. The accused has been arrested and sent to jail.”
