MUMBAI:
Maharashtra government on Thursday cited the Naxal attack in
Gadchiroli to oppose extension of interim protection from arrest to activist
Gautam Navlakha.
A division bench was hearing Navlakha's plea to quash the criminal case lodged against him by Pune police.
Additional public prosecutor Aruna Pai said due to the interim protection granted in October 2018, the police had been unable to continue with the probe as they wanted to interrogate him in custody.
Advocate Yug Chaudhry asked if the state was alleging Navlakha was behind Wednesday's attack.
Extending interim protection by one more month would not hamper probe, the bench said, and scheduled hearing on June 12.
