BAREILLY: The body of a four-year-old boy, who was abducted during a wedding ceremony on Sunday night in Nawabganj area of Bareilly, was found abandoned outside the village on Wednesday evening.
With the help of CCTV recording, police identified the accused, 19-year-old Suneel Kumar a Class XII dropout, and arrested him.
Suneel, a neighbour of the boy whom he used to call uncle, allegedly kidnapped him and demanded Rs 1 crore ransom from his father.

Police, however, suspect involvement of more people in the crime and have been investigating the case further. Investigation revealed, said police, that the accused killed the boy immediately after kidnapping him on Sunday night. “As the boy’s father received a second ransom call on Wednesday when the accused was in custody, it was possibly made by a third person, who wanted to take the advantage of the situation,” said police.
Divulging details, SP (crime) Ramesh Kumar Bhartiya said Chandraprakash Gangwar, a resident of Pilibhit district, had arrived at Nawabganj, along with his wife and son Agrim (4), to attend a wedding ceremony on Sunday night. Agrim went missing during the function, and couldn’t be found. Later, an FIR was registered at Nawabganj police station against Suneel Kumar.
“Suneel was taken into custody by Nawabganj SHO, but nothing came out during interrogation, and the case was handed over to the crime branch. We collected strong evidence against Suneel and then interrogated him. Sunil accepted his crime and helped us in recovering the body. He told us that he was expecting to get Rs 10-20 lakh, but had started with Rs 1 crore. After recovering the body, we have added IPC’s section 302 (murder) to the FIR. We are seeking remand of the accused for further investigation,” said SP.
“Since the second ransom call was routed via internet, we have sought IP address from the service provider to nab the caller,” SP added.
