The woman, who was was alone at home, received a call from a person claiming to be known to her brother on April 30. “He asked the woman to give her address as he was reaching there in some time for collecting the cash,” the officer said.
He said two men later met the woman at her residence. “She allowed them to come inside and offered them water and gave them the bag containing the cash. She, however, then thought of confirming with her brother about the duo. As she was calling her brother, the suspects assaulted her with a sharp blade on her hands. They then gagged her mouth with a cloth soaked with chemicals. Thereafter, they tried to remove her gold bangles but in vain. They then tied her hands and legs with her dupatta and a wire before taking to heels,” the officer said.
The woman regained consciousness around 7.15pm after her husband reached home and freed her. Later, she registered an FIR under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.
Senior inspector Ashok Kadam of the Swargate police said, “The CCTV cameras installed at the society have not captured the images of the two men but they have captured the images of a person who visited the flat for collecting the cash later. However, he did not ring the door bell on finding the door locked. The person waited downstairs for some time and drove out of the society after he failed to get in touch with the woman’s brother on phone.”
