PATNA: The Patna high court on Friday made a strong verbal observation that not even birds’ feed could be bought with the amount (Rs150) of family pension paid to the widows of Munger Municipal Corporation employees.
A bench of Justices Jyoti Saran and Anjani Kumar Sharan was hearing a PIL filed by Nagar Nigam Sevanivrit Karmchari Sangh of Munger to direct the authorities concerned to release their pension due since long.

Justice Saran observed that the finance commission gives enough funds to the officials, but they spend the amount on buying SUVs for themselves. He also questioned the period of five years only for which the family pension is payable to the widows of deceased employees.
“If you don’t look into the matter, we will. The matter is serious,” the bench observed.
The next date of hearing in the case is May 10. The petitioners moved the high court as they had not been paid pension for several years. Altogether 154 employees were paid one month’s pension in 2016, but soon the corporation ordered them to return because they had not opted for monthly pension.
