    Phase-IV voting up 3.88 per cent from 2014 Lok Sabha elections

    The voter turnout was 63.05% in Phase IV in 2014, and 65.51% in 2019 as per final data collated by the Election Commission of India.

    The highest increase in voter turnout has so far been reported in Madhya Pradesh.
    NEW DELHI: The fourth phase of Lok Sabha polls registered the highest increase in voter turnout, so far, up 2.46 percentage points over the 2014 figure. The voter turnout was 63.05% in Phase IV in 2014, and 65.51% in 2019 as per final data collated by the Election Commission of India.

    Nine states and 72 constituencies voted in Phase 4 of the Lok Sabha elections held on April 29. In total, 374 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats have voted so far. Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand which went to polls in Phase IV have posted the highest increase in voter turnout.MP voter turnout is up by 10.06 percentage points from 64.8% in 2014 and in Jharkhand by 7.57 percentage points.

    Jharkhand has reported 57.4% voter turnout in 2014 and 64.97% this time. Constituencies of Chatra and Lohardaga have shown major surge in turnout while it BJP strongholds of Sidhi, Shadol, Jabalpur, Mandla and Balaghat which have shown 9-12 percentage point increase.

    Rajasthan which has also started its Lok Sabha poll schedule with Phase IV reported a 3.6 percentage point increase with Chittorgarh and Rajsamand pushing up the turnout figures.

    Phase IV has seen voter turnout increase everywhere, except Odisha and West Bengal, where it slid by 1 and half a point, respectively. Overall, voter turnout also increased in other phases.

    Phase 1 saw voter turnout up by just 0.73 percentage point from 2014, while Phase 2 posted a small drop of 0.18 percentage points. Phase 3 of the Lok Sabha elections moved up voter turnout by 1.25 percentage points while Phase 4 has seen it go up by 2.46percentage-pointsin Phase 4.

    The highest increase in voter turnout has so far been reported in Madhya Pradesh and the steepest drop is being seen in two hill states- J&K which is under President’s rule and surprisingly Uttarakhand.

    While J&K has seen voter turnout drop by as much as 11 to 25 percentage points through the four phases, in Uttarakhand there has been a drop of 10.12percentage pointsfrom 2014. While Uttarakhand had seen a voter turnout of 71.6% in 2014, it was 61.48% in 2019.

    Daman and Diu, Meghalaya, Nagaland have seen voter turnout drop by 6.01, 6.8 and 5.4 percentage points respectively.
