BENGALURU: A group of agitators on Monday vandalised a private nursing home in Channapatna town, 60km from Bengaluru, and blocked Mysuru Road for more than 10 minutes following the death of a 21-year-old woman. She died minutes after giving birth to a boy in the nursing home. The agitators alleged medical negligence and demanding action against the doctor who treated the woman and the nursing home where she was admitted.
According to Channapatna Town police, Deekshita was admitted to Balu Nursing around 9pm Sunday and gave birth to the boy at 11pm.
She died a few minutes later.
Her relatives and villagers gathered at the hospital and alleged that Dr Shailaja, who treated Deekshita, was responsible for her death. They demanded stringent action against the nursing home and the doctor.
Deekshita from Maluru Pattana village had married Ramakrishnegowda from Bevur village a year ago.
More than 100 persons from both villages barged into the nursing home on Monday and damaged its window panes, furniture, flower pots. Later, they tried to attack Dr Shailaja at her house.
“We have registered a medical negligence case against Balu Nursing Home and its doctors, based on a complaint filed by Ramakrishnegowda,” Channapattana town police said. The nursing home did not file a counter-case against the mob.
District health officer Dr Amarnath said stringent action will be taken against the nursing home if negligence is proved.
