Class 10: Dharwad girl gets second rank in Karnataka

HUBBALLI / BELAGAVI: Girija Hegde, a student of Janata Shikshana Samiti’s Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwar Central School in Dharwad, has got 99.4% by scoring 497 out of 500 marks and bagged the second rank in CBSE exam in the state.
Girija, a native of Honnavar in Uttar Kannada district is the daughter of horticulturist Manju and Tunga. Girija has scored 98 marks in English, 99 in Sanskrit, 100 marks each in mathematics, science and social science.
Girija told reporters on Monday that she wanted to be involved in research as a scientist.
She said the people of the country are deprived of basic facilities such as water, electricity and as a scientist wants to provide these facilities at the cheapest price.
Stating that she used to study for only three-four hours a day, Girija said she used to revise the day’s lessons every day. “I read my text books thrice and solved several question papers in the last three months,” she said.
“I had never thought of securing a rank in the state. It happened because of the support of my teachers, parents and friends,” she said.
Shivalli’s daughter gets 76%
Roopa Shivalli, 16, the second daughter of late minister CS Shivalli had appeared for the CBSE class 10 exam on March 23, just a day after her father’s demise. She has secured 76 per cent marks as per the results announced on Monday.
Despite the personal tragedy and her family being busy preparing for Shivalli’s last rites, Roopa controlled her emotions and wrote the English paper at St Antony Public School in Kalidas Nagar on that day. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Roopa said her father would have been very happy had he been alive. “He wanted me to be in social life and serve people and I will fulfill his wish,” she said.

Good Shepherd student tops in Belagavi
Harmanmeet Singh Reem, a student of Good Shepherd Central School, Belagavi, secured the first rank in Belagavi by securing 98% marks in the 10th CBSE results declared on Monday.
Hermanmeet is the son of Colonel Harmeet Singh and Harveen Reem, an ex- principal of Army Primary School, Belagavi. Harmanmeet has scored 100 in social studies, 97 in English, 98 in Hindi, 98 in mathematics and 97 in science.
“My dad who is serving the nation at the border is my inspiration and my mother is my guide. However, I am grateful to the staff at my school because of whom I succeeded,” Harmanmeet told TOI. He added that he too would like to join the Army and serve the nation.
Col Harmeet Singh who is now posted at Kupwara border as commanding officer of the Rahshtriya Rifle Battalion is in Belagavi on a short visit.
