AGRA: In a suspected case of honour killing, bodies of a young couple were found hanging from a tree on the outskirts of a village Suchavali in UP's Hathras district on Tuesday morning.
According to police, the bodies were spotted by some passers-by on Tuesday morning around 10am in a deserted area, about one km away from the boy’s village. The deceased were identified as Jitendra kumar (20) and Shavita Singh (18).
Both were residents of the same village, but from different castes. Their bodies have been sent for post mortem.
Police said that the bodies were found hanging 25 feet above the ground from the branch of a Sheesham tree. According to local residents, both were in a relationship for the past couple of years. However, the boy’s family claimed that they were not aware of their relationship.
Police have registered a case of suicide as post-mortem report is still awaited. “The matter is being inquired in detail and all aspects are being looked into,” said station house officer of Hasayan police station Surjan Singh. He added that relevant sections will be added if any foul play is found in the investigations.
Talking to TOI, Jeetendra’s father Deshbandhu said that his son had been missing since Monday morning. However, they had not filed a complaint with the police, as they were busy searching for him, claimed Deshbandhu.
Deshbandhu said that after having dinner at home, Jitendra went out to sleep near the animal shed on Sunday night. Though he was not in his bed in the morning his slippers were lying near the cot.
