Set for dominance: Judd Trump

Ronnie O'Sullivan believes Judd Trump has taken snooker to the next level after his maiden World Championship win on Monday.

Trump beat John Higgins 18-9 in a stunning final that included a record 11 centuries, with pre-tournament favourite O’Sullivan saying it was impossible to put a number on potential world titles for Trump.

“It’s just now a matter of how many he can get now he’s got that monkey off his back,” O’Sullivan told Eurosport.

“You’ve had Stephen Hendry, unbelievable player, John Higgins, unbelievable player, and he’s in the same mould as them. He’s probably taken it to another level – it’s a different type of snooker.

“Judd’s best game is better than John Higgins’ best game, better than Stephen Hendry’s best game, and it is better than my best game.

“He’s hungry, he’s really worked on his game and he’s better than he ever has been, and I think it will take a generation of players to catch up and play the sort of game he’s playing.”

Hendry, meanwhile, predicted “a period of dominance” from Trump, while the player himself said it was only just the beginning.

“I am not going to get too carried away,” said Trump, “but, if I put the work in like I did this season and go back with the hunger as if I have not won anything, I hope to win more.”
