Fiona Edwin was in for a surprise when she looked up her marks in the ISC examinations on Tuesday.

A Science student at L’ecole Chempaka here, Fiona secured 99.75% marks to bag the second position in the country. An excited Fiona said she expected to do well but did not think she would score such high marks. A student of the school from Class 1, Fiona had secured 97.4% in the class 10 examinations.

Happy with her

Her parents, she said, were very happy with her success.

Though both of them are engineers – her father Edwin Thomas works on a ship and mother Sony freelances – Fiona has her heart set on a career in medicine. “They left it to me to decide what I want to do. That is why I chose Biology-Maths as my subjects.” She said she wants to get through JIPMER. “I’m preparing with the NEET in mind, not any particular institution. If I get a college in the city, that is fine.” Fiona said working hard and a disciplined schedule were her success mantra. One should avoid keeping everything for the end, and prepare for all tests as one would prepare for the annual exams. Even if one could not go over whatever had been taught the same day, the weekends should not be allowed to go waste. That, a good night’s sleep, and a calm head before the examinations were bound to show results, she said.

She could not but acknowledge the support from teachers and friends.
