CNA Hardy Enhances Cyber Proposition for UK Clients

May 9, 2019

CNA Hardy, a specialist commercial insurance provider for clients within the Lloyd’s and company markets, announced significant enhancements to its cyber proposition with a new pre-breach service and additional coverages.

“Our latest cyber proposition reflects the changing risk environment. Technology adoption creates new exposures, and cyber criminals are becoming more sophisticated,” said David Legassick, head of Cyber, Tech & Life Science.

“In response, our policy has been updated and now includes impersonation fraud/social engineering, which is one of the biggest exposures facing businesses today because it preys on the human weaknesses and mistakes,” he added.

As part of its expanded cyber proposition, CNA Hardy is now offering UK policyholders access to a leading website security partner, GamaSec.

“Our new pre-breach partner, GamaSec, will ensure that policyholders are able to protect their business from cyber threats. Our focus is on proactive loss prevention and minimizing the exposures that our policyholders face, instead of just risk mitigation,” said Legassick.

“GamaSec is a pre-breach tool designed to prevent cyber attacks. We use cutting edge virtual hacker technology to identify and eradicate dangerous malware threats and website application vulnerabilities,” said Avi Bartov, founder and CEO of GamaSec.

“We are proud to be working with CNA Hardy, their cyber policyholders can access GamaSec for no additional charge. It’s easy to use and there’s no coding or software to install,” added Bartov.

CNA Hardy said GamaSec joins an existing suite of pre-breach partner services, including penetration testing and cyber security analysis through to cyber security education.

Extensive breach assistance and post-breach response partner services are also available, such as forensic investigators, legal services, crisis management and public relations expertise and credit checking agency.

CNA Hardy said it is one of the few insurance carriers that provide retroactive cover from when the cyber breach first occurred, regardless of how long the hackers were in the system, undiscovered.

Other highlights include:

  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) actions and fines with €20 million coverage available. (Punitive fines are not covered).
  • No-excess-for-breach-response provision and up to 15 percent of the claim amount to cover any improvements and fixes that will avoid the same cyber incident from occurring again.

Explaining this provision, a company representative noted that if an incident occurs and immediate support is needed then a CNA Hardy breach partner will deliver its expert services with no excess payment required. This provides policyholders with immediate access to a vetted expert service in the event of a suspected or actual cyber incident, without the fear of an excess being applicable for these services with the client funding the first amount. If policyholders choose to use a different supplier – which they can – then an excess payment may be required.

These cyber solution enhancements are now available to both new and existing cyber policyholders in the UK, said the company, noting that they also will be rolled out to new and existing policyholders across Continental Europe and CNA Canada in the near future.
