Following widespread campaign and TOI reportage, CM
HD Kumaraswamy declared on Friday the 132-year-old
Training College for Women in
Dharwad will continue to function. TOI had reported the resentment of academicians, intellectuals and teaching aspirants over the DSERT's decision to close the institution, along with five others in the state, citing decline in the number of students.
Elected representatives, too, had voiced their support to the campaign, with MLCs Basavaraj Horatti and SV Sankanur writing to the chief minister against the closure move.
The CM has directed the principal secretary (education) not to close the Dharwad institute.
