TIRUPATI: Fifteen people were killed and four others wounded in a road accident near Veldurthi in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district on Saturday.
According to Veldurthi police, about 20 persons, most of them belonging to a family, hailing from Ramapuram village in Vaddepalli mandal of Jogulamba Gadwal district in Telangana, were returning to their native place after attending a wedding at Anantapur on Saturday evening.

When they reached the outskirts of Veldurthi and were about to get onto the Bengaluru-Hyderabad National Highway, a speeding private travels bus crashed into their SUV, leaving 13 dead on the spot. Two others died on the way to hospital. The condition of four others is said to be critical.
According to eyewitnesses, rash driving by the bus driver led to the mishap. The bus was proceeding to Bengaluru from Hyderabad. The bus driver lost control while avoiding hitting a two-wheeler. The bus hit the road divider, crossed onto the other side of the road and hit the ill-fated van.
Veldurthi police who were alerted about the accident rushed to the spot immediately even as the locals pulled out the bodies and tried to save any possible survivors. Local cops have reached the spot and are further investigating.
Officials of the district administration including collector S Satyanarayana and Kurnool SP Kaginelli Fakeerappa have directed the local police and the revenue officials to immediately ensure the best of medical care for survivors, if any.
