Bhopal: Fate of three political heavy weights, Digvijay Singh and Jyotiraditya Scindia (both of Congress) and Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar of BJP would be locked in EVM in the penultimate phase of Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh, scheduled to be held on Sunday.

Eight Lok Sabha seats, Bhopal, Guna, Morena, Gwalior, Bhind, Sagar,Vidisha and Rajgarh, would go to polls in the third phase LS polls in MP on Sunday.

Bhopal has turned a high profile seat, hogging national limelight, when BJP fielded Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, party’s poster girl of Hindutva, against Congress veteran Digvijay Singh, known as a bitter critic of RSS..

Stakes are high for Mr Singh, who was believed to have fallen from grace of Nehru-Gandhi family, in this election as he was tipped to reestablish his position in Congress by winning polls in Bhopal.

Mr Singh was locked in a neck-and-neck fight with Pragya, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon terror blast incident. Mr Scindia appeared to be in a comfortable situation in Guna that has remained with his family for 52 years. He was facing BJP’s K P Yadav, a former aide of him. Mr Yadav has joined BJP a few months ago from Congress.

Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar was facing working president of MP Pradesh Congress Committee Ram Nivas Rawat in a multi-cornered contest.

Mr Tomar has shifted his constituency from Gwalior to Tomar in this election. He replaced sitting MP of BJP Anup Mishra as party candidate in Morena. He seemed to be facing anger of Brahmin voters in the constituency following denial of ticket to Mr Mishra.
