Digvijay Singh, Jyotiraditya Scindia face heat today

Eight Lok Sabha seats, Bhopal, Guna, Morena, Gwalior, Bhind, Sagar, Vi-disha and Rajgarh, would go to polls in the third phase polls in the state.

Bhopal: Fate of three political heavyweights, Digvijay Singh and Jyotiraditya Scindia of the Congress) and Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar of the BJP would be locked in EVM in the penultimate phase of Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh, on Sunday.

Eight Lok Sabha seats, Bhopal, Guna, Morena, Gwalior, Bhind, Sagar, Vi-disha and Rajgarh, would go to polls in the third phase polls in the state.

Bhopal turned a high profile seat when the BJP fielded Pragya Singh Thakur, the party’s poster girl of Hindutva, against Mr Singh, known as a bitter critic of RSS..

The stakes are high for Mr Singh, who was believed to have fallen from grace of the Nehru-Gandhi family and was trying to reestablish his position by winning the polls in Bhopal.

Mr Singh is locked in a neck-and-neck fight with Ms Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts. Mr Scindia appeared to be in a comfortable situation in Guna that has remained with his family for 52 years. He is facing the BJP’s K.P. Yadav, a former aide of him. Mr Yadav has joined BJP a few months ago from Congress.

Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar is facing working president of MP Pradesh Congress Committee Ram Nivas Rawat in a multi-cornered contest.

Mr Tomar has shifted his constituency from Gwalior to Tomar in this election. He replaced sitting MP of BJP Anup Mishra as party candidate in Morena. He seemed to be facing anger of Brahmin voters in the constituency following denial of ticket to Mr Mishra by the BJP.
