Two, who had hidden bombs, flee after the explosion

A country bomb hidden at a house near Melapattam foothills near here went off on Saturday night. No casualties were reported in the incident.

Police are in search of two persons who had hidden country bombs at the newly-constructed house.

When the bomb went off with a huge sound, neighbours alerted police. Immediately, Inspector Raghupathi Raja, attached to Palayamkottai Taluk police station, and police personnel rushed to the spot.

The main door and windows of the house were damaged in the explosion. The police, who conducted a search at the house, found two more country bombs, and defused them.

On inquiry, the police found that Siva alias Narayanan and his brother Arul had hidden the bombs at the house for use in criminal activities. The siblings are absconding.

Meanwhile, during patrol at Vadakkoor near Keezhanatham, Palayamkottai Taluk police arrested four persons, who had detonators in their possession.

The detonators were to be used for fishing in rivers. The arrested were Arun, 32, of Chathiram Pudhukulam, Kannaiah, 59, of Keelanatham, Maharajan, 30, and Kannan, 28, of Pettai.
