Six killed, 12 hurt in Siwan bus accident

PATNA: At least six people, including two women, were killed and 12 others injured when a private bus carrying them overturned near Amlauri on Gopalganj-Siwan road under Mufassil police station area in Siwan district on Monday.
The seriously injured have been admitted to the Siwan sadar hospital. The condition of five of them is stated to be critical. The ill-fated bus was on way to Siwan from Gopalganj when the mishap occurred, police said.
A police officer said the driver of the bus lost control over the vehicle after the tyre of the front wheel of the bus suddenly got punctured.
“As the bus was running at a high speed (about 70km/hour), the driver lost control over the vehicle and it subsequently overturned near Amlauri Sarsar BEd College on the busy road,” police said.
While four people died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries at the Siwan sadar hospital. Four of the deceased were identified as Jakir (25), Komal (30), Mantu Kumar (29) and Nirmala Devi (26). The identity of the two other deceased is yet to be ascertained.
Siwan SP Navin Chandra Jha said five of the seriously injured have been referred to the Patna Medical College and Hospital for better treatment. Both the driver and the conductor of the bus are reported to be absconding after the accident.
SHO of Mufassil police station Dharmendra Kumar said the bodies have been sent to the sadar hospital for post mortem. “A complaint has been lodged on the basis of the statement of the victims and raids are to nab the driver of the bus,” the SHO added.
