HOWRAH: Nearly 720 contractual workers of Howrah Municipal Corporation (HMC) staged an agitation in front of HMC commissioner's chamber on Monday protesting that 419 of them were yet to get their dues for the last six months. The rest protested they got less wages since their 30-day work scheme was reduced to 10 days.
The agitating workers also blocked MG Road for half an hour. Cops later rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.

Since November 2018, 419 contractual casual workers, most of them women, were not getting their dues from the civic body. Locals said the workers staged an agitation in front of the commissioner, Bijin Krishna's chamber for about two hours.
Some workers alleged that fresh trouble started when some BJP supporters entered at the civic body's office and started protesting. The workers, mostly Trinamool supporters, then got involved in a scuffle with the BJP supporters. Later, cops intervened to pacify the situation.
